Peter and Olanda (Fratesi) Landi's parents were part of the Italian migration to the lower Mississippi Delta. Like many of the Italians in the Delta, their parents came from the Ancona region of northeastern Italy. Olanda grew up on a farm and went to Plum Ridge School near Leland, Mississippi. Peter grew up in the black neighborhood of North Greenville. They opened a grocery store that served a black clientele in the "Black Dog" section of Leland, Mississippi. They lived behind the store, raising their only child, Rocky, in the African American neighborhood. In the 1970's a series of deliberate fires drove them out of business. (Rocky Landi Collection.
